| How to make the most out of your Portrait Session |
| With these simple instructions we hope to give you some great ideas for the best results from your session :-) |
| |
| MAKEUP
| Please make sure that your skin is not shiny. Avoid products that feature sparkles. Man should consider powder if they have shiny skin (especially foreheads). We highly recommend using a professional makeup artist (especially for individual portraits) and will help you to find somebody awesome if you like. |
| WARDROBE
| Plan carefully to represent the desired casting for your shot. It should be typical for your age. Consider dressing up, but only within your comfort zone!
| FAMILIES
| Please dress your family as uniform as possible to express your families unity. Jeans and black shirts work great, but at a minimum the colors should be coordinated. |
| THE CHARACTERS |
| While communicating family unity with coordinating clothing, the opposite can be fun as well. This family portrait is one of my all time favorites. The way props are used in this family portrait is a very fun way to tell a bundle about every family member but also the whole family. |
| CLOTHING
| Clothes should compliment, not compete. Simple is best. Avoid patterns, stripes, dots, checks, paisley, floral prints, Hawaiian shirts, text or logos. Avoid oversized clothes and big shoulder pads. Select fabrics that move well and drape gracefully rather than stiff fabrics like linens. Make sure your clothes are in good condition because the camera capture details very well. Your clothes should fit well and make you feel good. |
| BLACK and WHITE
| Colors are important. Convert color in your mind's eye into black and white and shades of gray. Pastels like pale yellow will photograph white. Dark colors like navy will photograph black. Medium shades of color will photograph gray. |
| ACCESSORIES |
| Keep it to a minimum. Avoid hats, hair ornaments, and sparkly or costume jewelry unless it is for a character shot. Women could select classic and conservative jewelry for a business look. |
| PROPS |
| Props can be totally awesome to make a session more interesting. We typically use props only in a fraction of the portraits we take, but often these are the most fun and unique portraits taken. Props should fit your and or your families personality. Great props are instruments, hats that you actually wear and anything that says something meaningful about the individual. |
| IMPORTANT
| Be sure to get plenty of rest the night before. Allow enough time to get to your photo shoot so you are not rushed or late! It is important for you to be calm, positive, and comfortable. |
